House Signs ...

Most of us have a few little plaques with cute sayings on them scattered around our houses, and when I thought about writing about mine, I didn't realize I had so many ... all of which, with the exception of one, are in my kitchen.

{You can click on the pictures to enlarge them}

I have three cross stitch signs that were
done by friends many years ago ...

I bought this needlepoint at an antique shop years ago and it
hangs over the doors leading from my kitchen into the dining room ...

These two little plaques came from a shop
in the French Quarter of New Orleans ...

I looked for the shop the last time we were there, but it must not have survived Katrina because I couldn't find it.

This one hangs over my cooktop ...

And last, but not least, is this little iron plaque which
hangs over our key rack at the back door ...

I would love for you to share your favorite signs. I've seen so many in catalogs and shops that I'd like to have, but it's hard to find places for them.

Janie,

I loved all of these. Very good advice and lots of chuckles. I have the "thou shalt not whine" one, too! LOL! My father could tolerate anythng but whining, and years ago, I was whining on vacation in Florida that I wanted to stay, please can we stay, just one more week, one more day, etc. He was driving, stopped the car, and said, "If you don't stop that whining, I'm gonna let you out right here where you can stay with all the alligators." That wasn't a threat, it was a joy, and here I am many, many years later...living with the alligators and the tourists! ;-)

Happy Sunday!

XO,

Sheila

In my kitchen and dining room I have a few antique prints of bible verses and the Lord's Prayer. They are probably from the late 1800s, and the graphics are wonderful on them. Guess I should post about them someday. Thanks for sharing yours. Sally

Hi Janie,
What a great idea for a post!

I especailly like the one 'Thou shall not whine.'

I did cross stitch many years ago and did one 'Thank you Lord for letting me born in the South, and for the cornbread and turnip greens in my mouth.'....I sold it at a garage sale! Silly me...wish I had it back although it was in the country blue that was so popular!

What a great post, I love all of your signs. The Thou Shall Not Whine; I really like that one. What a great idea for everyone to do a post on. I am going to go through my house and look for my signs and do a post on.
Have a great week

hugs;

Great signs...I know BJ has a bunch of cute ones too. I'm looking for one I saw on RMS that said "we don't go skinny dipping...we go chunky dunkin". I want to get it for my pool bath. I really don't have any signs around my house. hmmmm maybe it's time to buy a few!

My MIL has the Home Rules sign at her house and I have always loved it!! I too have many signs in my home and I love each of them b/c they say something about who we are as a family.

I made a sign for our house that says "God Bless our home, each brick and rafter, May it be filled with Love & Laughter" It's not very cute, but it gets the job done. Maybe one day I'll do those wall words things.

Many years ago I had a linen calendar towel with a poem on it, something like this:
"Bless this house,
Each brick and rafter
May it ring with love and laughter.
Make it safe by night and day.
O Lord we pray."
but I know that's not quite right. I've googled several times for it. Today I remembered the brick part and that's what brought me to this blog. If anyone knows the complete poem, I'd love to hear it. It would make a great wallhanging!
