Window Shopping Part II

This is a continuation of my Window Shopping photo tour of Vicksburg's downtown historical district.

Yesterday, we ended our window shopping at a shop called Art and Soul, and today I'd like to begin with the shop next door to Art and Soul. It is called Crown & Heels, and is the place in Vicksburg to go for stylish and unique everyday clothes, plus prom dresses, pageant gowns, shoes, jewelry, and more.

And now, let's cross over to the other side of the street for a moment to visit Willingham's, a huge shop featuring beautiful accessories for the home.

I love this fern in its colorful aqua planter. What a nice way to welcome visitors.

And speaking of colorful, take a look at this beautiful sunflower painting and bright yellow rooster ...

Next door to Willingham's is this unique shop called The Cat Walk. I love the mannequins in the window, all dressed up for a night on the town in Vicksburg.

Let's go back across the street and visit a little shop that has been owned by the same family for 60 years.

It's a charming little children's shop called Fredericks, which offers children's clothes, shoes, and dance wear.

I love the way the windows are decorated, incorporating both new and old merchandise (notice the little Raggedy Ann climbing the ladder in the picture below).

And what little boy wouldn't love a Thomas the Tank raincoat and matching boots to splash in puddles!

My next stop was the H.C. Porter Gallery, which features the artwork of nationally recognized Mississippi artist H.C. Porter.

The verse bordering this colorful print says: "I have a bird to whistle and I have a bird to sing; I have the lonesome worried Blues, boys, but that don't mean a thing."

Let's cross the street one more time to visit the Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum. In 1894, Joseph Biedenharn bottled Coke in Vicksburg for the first time anywhere in the world. The museum features the history of Coca-Cola, along with equipment of the type that Biedenharn used back in 1894. A wide variety of original Coca-Cola advertising and memorabilia is on display to allow the visitor to follow the evolution of “The Pause That Refreshes!”

Abraham's Department Store was established in 1928, and I love its window displays. Looking at them makes me feel as if I've gone back in time, and I mean that in a good way.

Next door to Abrahams, is Lorelei Books ...

The Audubon Nature Store is fairly new to Vicksburg, and is Mississippi's only Audubon store. All purchases help support conservation work in Mississippi.

They carry a variety of feeders, field guides, garden art, locally produced wildlife photography and other art, and much more.

I love the painting which serves as a backdrop for its window display.

Although the next picture is not related to window shopping, I couldn't resist capturing it with my camera.

It's a hot dog stand/paddlewheeler, complete with picnic tables. It should be a popular place this Fall when the weather cools off.

As I was taking all of those pictures, I didn't have a chance to really see everything in the windows. As I edited them, though, I saw several things I want to go back to see "up close and personal" when the shops are open ... like those beautiful Brown-Eyed Susans at Peterson's!

I have one more shop I want to share with you, but I'm going to save it for tomorrow. Some of you may think it's the best of all.

Window Shopping in Vicksburg

We had a little relief from the oppressive heat and humidity yesterday morning, and I headed for downtown Vicksburg to do a little window shopping with my camera before the shops opened. The quaint historical shopping district lines Washington Street for several blocks and is home to an amazing variety of shops, ranging from a few that look like they are straight out of the 1950s, to several beautiful upscale gift and clothing shops.

The buildings themselves are architectural wonders, with ornate iron and wood trim, and elaborate tile-patterned entrances welcoming you to shops that have long been gone.

This one is a work of art, composed of tiny tiles to create a mosaic pattern. Doesn't it look like a rug!

You don't see many shop entrances like those these days, not even at multi-million dollar shopping villages.

The first shop on my tour is Sassafras, a gift shop full of southern hospitality and beautiful accessories for your home. Established 18 years ago, it occupies two adjoining circa 1876 buildings.

Next to Sassafras is Peterson's Art & Antiques, which features a mix of new and old fine quality accessories and furniture. They also have an extensive art gallery featuring the works of local artists. I have a few of my photographs displayed at Peterson's and have actually sold a couple of things.

I've got to go back and get some of those Brown-Eyed Susans in the top left corner of this picture! They will be perfect for Fall.

One of my favorite shops in Vicksburg is The Cinnamon Tree. I love their home and garden accessories and every time I visit them, I can always find something I need, want, or have-to-have. They also have a wonderful selection of Vera Bradley items, lamps, candles, bath accessories, jewelry, and adorable outfits and shoes for children.

I love the reflection of the Mississippi flag in this first picture.

I'd like to have one of these little linen guest towels.

My next stop was Art and Soul, a unique shop that was once featured in an article in Southern Living.
