Go Fly a Kite !

One of the simplest pleasures in life is flying a kite, no matter what age you are.

Last year, we bought our little granddaughter Avery a Dora the Explorer kite and she was so excited learning how to fly it.

Here are some pictures I captured of her first "kite flying adventure."

I wouldn't take anything for that look of pure joy on her little face.

Yesterday, Avery asked me when it would be time to fly her kite again, and I told her as soon as it's windy enough. It's supposed to be a beautiful day here today, so perhaps Dora and Avery will get to "explore the skies" again.

And speaking of exploring the skies, it seems that kite-flying is a serious sport in some parts of the world. Take a look at these photos of some beautiful kites I found the Internet.

My favorite is this ship kite. Isn't it amazing!

I would love to see one like this in the air ...

Let's go fly a kite!

One of Life's Simple Pleasures ...

Our weekend was unseasonably warm, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s Saturday. It was also very windy -- a perfect day to fly a kite!

We bought a kite last spring for our granddaughter Avery, and the past couple of weekends she's been asking if we could fly it. We kept telling her that there wasn't enough wind, but, Saturday, my husband surprised her by getting the kite out.

There was definitely enough wind Saturday, and, needless to say, Avery was so excited she literally skipped out the door (as only a 3-1/2 year-old little girl can do). If the truth be known, her grandmama was just as excited ... but I refrained from skipping.

Isn't it wonderful how children and grandchildren can turn the simplest thing, like flying a kite, into a memorable occasion to be cherished for a very long time.

I'm so glad I thought to take my camera outside with me. Just look at the expression of pure delight on Avery's little face as she finally got to fly her kite ...

It takes a lot of concentration to fly a kite, and you have to hold your mouth just right! ...

There's just nothing like grandchildren to make you feel "young at heart," and to make you appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with this precious little girl named Avery Grace.
