Old Stuff

I love old stuff ... not necessarily fine old antiques or collectibles, but just old STUFF. Things that have been abandoned and left to spend the rest of their days collecting dust and spider webs in old barns and houses and churches ... or left standing in an overgrown field along a roadside, hidden from view by tangled vines and tall grass.

During my ramblings, I always notice these old relics and buildings and try to preserve them in my pictures where they will forever be as they are -- sometimes standing proud, though battered ... sometimes "ramshackledy" and leaning ... and oftentimes, mostly "gone with the wind" ... but, always, always, so full of character and stories. If only they could talk.

I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

And my favorite "old stuff" ... the Windsor Ruins

Scenes from Old Highway 80

I'd like to thank our gracious hostess Susan at A Southern Daydreamer, for taking the time to host our "Outdoor Wednesdays." Be sure and visit Susan today and read her interesting post on Stone Mountain, Georgia.

For my "Outdoor Wednesday" post today, I'd like to share a few pictures I took on a recent trip to Shreveport, Louisiana. The first ones are of the Mardi Gras Museum, located on old Highway 80 west of Shreveport, and feature some of the floats peeking out of their storage buildings.

We traveled old Highway 80 from Shreveport to Arcadia, Louisiana, and I was pleased to capture these two dusty old cars in a storage shed beside the road (one is a Cadillac [first photo], and I couldn't identify the other one). They are probably quite valuable, especially the Cadillac ...

If you ever have a chance to travel old Highway 80, I think you would enjoy it. Every now and then you come across remnants of history from the days before interstates ... like deserted old gas stations with gas prices less than $2.00 a gallon, and deserted old motels with their faded neon signs. And, if you're lucky, you might even see an eagle perching on a pole beside the road like this one I captured with my camera on another Highway 80 adventure ...
