A French Poster

It never ceases to amaze me how far-reaching the Internet is.

To think that a person in France can come across a picture I took a couple of years ago of some ruins in Claiborne County, Mississippi, is mind-boggling to me ... but it happened.

I'd like to share the note I recently received from a professor at the University of Versailles St. Quentin , asking permission to use one of my photos of the Windsor Ruins for a poster for a one-day symposium on "the South in the Reconstruction." (You can click on the link to read my story about the Ruins and to see more pictures, if you'd like.)

Here is the professor's gracious note:

I arrived on your blog looking for a picture of a ruined mansion of our one-day symposium on the South in the Reconstruction here at the University of Versailles St Quentin. I wonder if you would let us use one of your pictures for a poster? I am afraid it will not give you much exposure, as it is a purely academic event, but we will of course give you full credit for this compelling photograph of the ruins of Windsor.

Come and visit Versailles some time. I am sure you would make great pictures here too!

Regards-- ******, Professeur des Universites
Universite Versailles St Quentin

Isn't that nice! Of course, I was very flattered that he wanted to use one of my pictures, and here is the photo I sent him ...

After the poster was printed, the professor e-mailed a copy to me, and then was kind enough to mail one of the posters to me.

The professor (who shall remain anonymous for privacy's sake) made sure that credit was given to me for the photo, and even included links on the university's web site to my blog post about Windsor and to my Photography with a Southern Accent blog.

This is the second time one of my photos has attracted attention from someone on the "other side of the world from Mississippi," and I couldn't be more pleased.
