A Soggy Homecoming ...

This is a follow up on our trip to New Orleans this past weekend. We arrived home at around 5:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon and were looking forward to unpacking and having some time to relax after traveling most of the day. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out the way we had planned.

This is what greeted us when we walked in the door ...

It seems that condensation from our air conditioning unit, which is in the attic, filled the drip pan, which in turn overflowed and soaked the ceiling in the dining room. Evidently, water dripped from the ceiling all weekend while we were gone and soaked part of the oriental rug and the pad underneath it.

NOT a pleasant thing to come home to after a fun trip to New Orleans, but I guess it could have been a lot worse. At least the furniture and dining room chairs didn't get wet.

So, instead of happily writing my post about our trip, I've been on the phone all morning with the air conditioning people (who are here now, thank goodness), State Farm, the rug store, and trying to find someone to repair the ceiling.

I just thought I'd cheer you up by sharing my Monday morning with you and, perhaps, making you appreciate yours more. This afternoon, I'm hoping to edit my 204 pictures from our trip and start writing my post.

To be continued ...

I've had that exact same thing happen at my house and it's such a bother. I'm sorry your homecoming was spoiled by it. Blessings, marlene

Oh, I'm so sorry you had to come home to this. My friend that went to Italy with us came home to a bursted pipe in her ceiling...she has been working on it for awhile!

Take your time with your pictures...I look forward to seeing them. Over 200??? You are quite the photographer! LOL

Wow, so sorry about the mess. It seems to take forever to get all the stuff dry too. Hope everythig gets cleaned up. This didn't damage that Dutch painting that I love so much did it?
Good luck!

It never fails! I hate it when you have been gone and you come home to a disaster. I hope there wasn’t any major damage to your beautiful rug. I can’t wait to hear about your trip to New Orleans. I love some of the French antique shops there. I do hope you had a good trip.

What a headache. At least it looks like a clean water leak...

Very nice looking rug, although I hope that's not color run on the fringe....

Best of luck!

Ok, now I'm feeling a touch guilty for stalking your blog this morning. I was sooo anxious to see your undoubtably beautiful pictures.

I'm so sorry you had to come home to this!

We had a similar incident...only it is our upstairs front bedroom and was due to the a/c folks not sealing the pipe. What a mess! and what a headache to come home too.
Look forward to seeing photos of your fun time...

Oh my! What a shame and a pain in the neck to deal with!! Thankfully it wasn't a lot worse though and caved in! I'm sure it will be as good as new soon! Thanks for the heads up though, I need to check out our attic and see if our system is up there? Never thought about a drip pan! Gives me something else to worry about when we go away! I just left your first post and enjoyed your trip so far! Have a great day, talk soon - Jeannette
