Just Rambling ... A Visit to Two Flea Markets and an Antique Mall

This is a follow up to my recent post about the "Old House Depot" architectural salvage warehouse. Before I visited it, I went to a couple of my favorite places to browse for antiques and flea market treasures.

My first stop was at a large flea market called Highway 49 South Antiques and Flea Market, which is in Florence, Mississippi, about ten miles south of Jackson.

This building connects to another flea market called Magnolia Flea Market, which is even larger. So, there's actually two huge buildings filled with all kinds of good stuff, and you only have to make one stop! Does it get any better than that?

I can't remember ever going here without buying something, and I found two treasures this time, which I will share later in this post.

But first, I'd like to "ramble with you through the mall" and show you some things I thought were pretty ... or unique ... or that I would have bought if I had a place for them.

Like this elegant little aqua dresser with its pretty framed mirror ...

This old vase reminded me of Italian pieces, but I was surprised to see a Japan mark on the bottom. It was in perfect condition except for some crazing, which I think makes it even more desirable ...
Isn't it pretty! I can't believe I didn't buy it, and I'm probably going to go back next week and get it. I just hate it when I get "wishy washy" about buying something and go back to get it later and it's gone. I hope that won't be the case this time, 'cause I really want that vase!

I like these bright floral prints and think they would be pretty in a sunroom or on a covered porch ...

I LUV this precious little stool ... isn't the color wonderful!
Wish I had a place for it!

And speaking of "precious," is this not the sweetest little bench you've ever seen! I'd love it for my little granddaughter Avery Grace, but there's just not room for it in her room ...

Catnap, anyone?
When I walked into this booth, I said, "Hello, kitty cat!" ... then noticed that his ears or tail didn't move. As I got closer to him, I realized that he wasn't real and hoped no one heard me talking to him. I can't believe how real he looked, though!

I love this beautiful picture which looks like a reverse glass painting. It was hanging up high and I really couldn't get close enough to tell ...

This is a little oil painting on canvas of two little Amish girls ...

I think this elegant desk is so unique. I've never seen one with an ornate base like that and wonder if it's original to the desk. Also, notice the two little drawers on the sides ...

As I mentioned earlier, I bought two pieces at the flea market and I'm so pleased with both of them.

I didn't hesitate at all when I saw this unique little brass and wood box. I knew it would be perfect on the table beside my husband's chair in our bedroom ...

I could also picture this precious little gilt cherub with its onyx base on a table in my living room ... and I just love it!

One thing I've discovered while rambling through junk shops, flea markets, antique malls, and upscale antique shops is that my taste varies as much as the merchandise you will find in these places. While I am drawn to ornate Italian, French, and European accessories, I also find myself attracted to "country," rustic, and primitive pieces, too.

The next place I stopped during my visit to Jackson, was the High Street Antique Mall (another one of my favorite places). Although the temperature was flirting with 100 that day and I felt wilted, the adrenaline started pumping when I walked in the door at High Street. So many pretty things everywhere I looked!

Elaborate Candelabras ...
Gorgeous Lamps (I want this one!) ...

Elegant Chandeliers ...

Exquisite Epergnes ...

Beautiful Birdcages ...

I love this gorgeous brass rocking horse ...

One thing I especially enjoy about High Street Mall is admiring the beautifully decorated booths. Here are a few of my favorites, which attest to my varying range of tastes ...

From elegant ...

To primitive ...
To country ...

I love this blue table with the sunflowers ...

And the little red school chairs and memorabilia in the corner ...

Well, that ends my tour of the flea markets and antique mall. If you haven't read about my next stop at The Old House Depot, and would like to, please read my post called "A Visit to the Old House Depot."
Sincerely,

Hey Janie

I could see a bunch of things there I'd like to find a place for...especially that blue dresser and the painting of the bridge. I also see we share similar taste in reading material...I love Greg Isles and David Baldacci. And of course you know how much I admire your decorating talent and your beautiful home.

Have a wonderful day!

What a wonderful blog. I'll check back often. I enjoy flea markets and antique malls also but haven't had a lot of time recently to browse. You found some great items...

Hi Janie,
I tried to comment on your post earlier..guess I didn't hit the right button.

I love all your pictures. The things you bought will look great in your house! I wouldn't be surprised to hear that you went back and got the vase.

I have been to the High Street Mall, but not the other two. Now I'll have to make another trip over there to see those! I would much rather shop one of these antique malls or flea markets than go to the mall!
You took us on a fun window shopping spree through our computer this morning...and I didn't even have to get out in the heat! LOL
Have a wonderful day,
Diane

Hi Janie! What a great place! I saw so many things I liked. Those bright colored floral prints I love. I do hope your vase is waiting for you!!! Love the little box you bought and the cherub is adorable, just the right size! I want that birdcage with the wood too. I completely understand what you mean about different taste. A place like this would make me dizzy with excitement! Have a great evening - Jeannette

OK...I think the little pink wicker stool would look darling set in front of the aqua dresser! I can just see an elegant vintage lady perfuming herself there!

My new word of the day is "Epergnes"...I had no idea what that was!

Have a beautiful and inspiring day!♥

Oh, how I wish I had places like those to go to! No such thing in my neck of the woods and I think I'm at my limit for girls trips for the summer... I went to New Orleans with my cousin & 6 year old--thanks for posting about your wonderful trip and inspiring me to go again too. (Come see my blog about it if you get a minute!)

Shopping with you is the best! I love all the antiques and the salvage place was great. I haven't found one here yet, but we had one in Virginia that I used to spend WAY too much money in ;)
