Decorating Traditions

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, I use a lot of the accessories I've collected through the years which have special meaning to me and my family. Some of the decorations have been passed down from generation to generation, and I love unpacking them and recalling memories of Christmases Past.

Being a traditionalist, I tend to create similar vignettes year to year, sometimes adding new accessories to the old. Some may think that's boring, but I love family traditions that have evolved through the years and it makes me happy to decorate my mantel the same way I did it last year ... or to set up our Nativity set the same way.

So, in sharing my Christmas decor this year, I'm probably going to repeat some of my posts from last year, like yesterday's Christmas Candy Centerpiece. But I also have some new things to share, one of which I can't wait to show you later this week.

Today, I'd like to share one of my favorite Christmas accessories -- our Nativity set. It's not a fancy or expensive set ... in fact, it's rather plain ... but we've had it a long time and I love it.

I especially like it displayed under the French cross which hangs in our dining room ...

I can't wait for our granddaughter Avery to see the Nativity this weekend. She loved it last year, and it's a wonderful way to remind her of the real reason we celebrate Christmas.

I'm enjoying everyone's Christmas decorating ideas, and will post more of mine later this week. Until then ... Happy decorating, Y'all!

Why change something that is so pretty and means so much to you? Love it!

Wonderful Nativity. I'm traditionalist too and I love decorating our house for Christmas. I have got few Christmas accessories that I change regularly every year. Each accessory invokes in me beautiful memories. I enjoy every minute of unpacking and installing them. May be that's the reason why I'm not still finished but I think that it will be ready in upcoming days.

Take care,
Julie

This is simply stunning, Janie---a focal point about the true Center of the holiday.

We're almost finished with our own decorating, and we'll share pictures more than once, I hope.

I wish you well and warm and happy this Blessed Season.

I love your nativity. It is beautiful. There is nothing better to decorate for Christmas than to have a nativity set. It looks great under your cross.
God Bless

I really like your Nativity scene but that French cross is stunning. What a great way to enter into the advent season!

Janie your nativity set is very beautiful! One of my favorite memories of childhood was putting the figure of baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas Eve after midnight Church services. We would then go home and open out gifts. Santa Claus filled our stockings on Christmas morn.

I have several nativity sets. One is beautiful olive wood from the Holy Lands. And, several others that are so pretty. But, the one that I love the most, is the cheap plastic one that I bought for my boys when they were small. I wanted one that they could play with, and not worry about breaking.
Actually, I think I may do a post on all the sets we have...is that sort of like stealing your idea? Hope not!
