This is a follow up post on a European boudoir-style lamp I bought at a thrift shop while we were on vacation in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The shop was in the little mountain town of Hiawassee, and if you would like to read about our day trip to Hiawassee, and about how I found the lamp, you can click here. The first two pictures are of the lamp as it was when I bought it. The shade was tattered and stained, and the porcelain flowers on the base were covered with dust and lint. After returning home from vacation, I took the lamp to a lamp shop in Jackson, and bought a new shade and finial for it, and had it cleaned and the wiring checked and updated. I picked it up from the lamp shop yesterday and was very pleased with its new look. I want to get some 25-watt bulbs for it so it will cast a softer glow, and I think it will be perfect. I had to put 40-watt bulbs in it for the picture and they were too bright. Don't you just love finding little treasures like this one when you least expect it! |

A Georgia Thrift Shop Treasure
While on vacation in Blue Ridge, Georgia, last week, my parents and my husband and I went exploring and ended up in a pretty little mountain town called Hiawassee. We had lunch and visited the Hiawassee Antique Mall, which is the largest antique mall in Northeast Georgia. If you ever pass through Hiawassee, be sure to stop by. It's huge and has a little bit of everything, including some nice pieces of furniture. Our next stop was at the Christ the King Thrift Shop, which was recommended by the nice ladies at the antique mall, and was where I found this elegant little "boudoir" lamp.
Although its shade was tattered and stained and the lamp was covered with a layer of dust, it was still love at first sight, especially when I saw the three elegant little porcelain flowers nestled among the gilt leaves at its base ... and just look at those beautiful old candle covers!
The price tag was marked $50.00, but I asked if they could take less and the sweet lady told me they would take $37.50 for it. Needless to say, I couldn't pay for it fast enough! As I write this, it is at a lamp shop in Jackson, Mississippi, being rewired and cleaned, and I can't wait to share its "after" pictures next week. I'm not sure where I'm going to put it, but I know wherever it ends up, I will love it ... not only because it's a beautiful little lamp, but because it will always remind me of that day we spent with my parents exploring the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. |
