Images in Black and White

All of the following pictures were originally in color, but sometimes I think black and white is even more interesting.

I like the idea of using black and white photographs in decorating. To me, they provide an uncluttered less is more look, which I prefer.

This picture of our granddaughter Avery Grace has inspired me to convert more of my pictures of her to black and white, and perhaps put together a grouping of framed photographs of her.

Magnolias are always beautiful in black and white ...

If you have a photo editing program, you might enjoy converting some of your photographs to black and white. I think you will be surprised by the totally different look it gives them. Sepia tones are also nice.

How Now, Black and White Cow!

I was thumbing through some old issues of Country Living magazine the other day and in the September 2009 issue, I came across this black and white picture of a cow that had been framed.

The article accompanying the picture was about transforming just about anything into works of art ... the cow picture actually being a recycled place mat that was framed.

Place mat or not, I really liked the picture and immediately thought about my collection of cow pictures I've captured the past couple of years, and wondered what they would look like in black and white. That was easy enough to find out ... all I had to do was convert them to black and white in my Photoshop Elements program, and Viola! ... my own little herd of black and white cows, suitable for framing!

The next picture is my favorite, and I'll probably have it framed someday when I can find just the right place for it.

On second thought, I may have to frame more than one of those. I just love cows, and surely I'll be able to find someplace to hang them!

Roses -- A Different Perspective

I think some images are more interesting in black and white, especially those of roses. Here are a few of my rose photos from which I have removed the color. I have included the original color photos at the end.

While writing this post, I was trying to decide which I liked better ... the color or the black and white version. But as I studied the photos, I realized that it's like comparing apples and oranges. Sometimes it's just fun to see pictures from a different perspective, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're better than the original photos ... just different. See what you think!

I couldn't find the original color photo of this rosebud. But even the sepia tone gives it a totally different look from the black and white version.
