Decorating Solution: Arched Doors with Glass Panes

We have double arched front doors with glass panes which we liked when we bought our house three years ago. But, unfortunately, we soon discovered that the glass panes allowed too much sunlight and glare into the living area.

This was a problem for several reasons:

1) I was afraid it would fade the leather on the back of a chair sitting near the entry;

2) In the summertime, the sun streaming through the glass caused the entry area to be very warm;

3) And last, but certainly not least (to my husband, anyway) ... it caused a terrible glare on our flat-panel tv, even though the screen is non-glare.

After living with it for almost three years, we finally decided to see what we could do to correct the problem.

An interior designer friend gave me the name of another designer who specializes in window and door coverings, and I was delighted to hear that she had a solution to our dilemma -- wooden shades!

And now, three weeks later, we have our custom shades and couldn't be more pleased with them.

No more sun on the leather chair, no more glare on the tv screen, and I think the doors look even nicer now.

P.S. -- For those of you who live in the Vicksburg or Jackson, Mississippi area and would like the name of the designer who made the shades, e-mail me and I'll be glad to give it to you.
