While out running errands one morning this week, I took the time to drive through some of my favorite neighborhoods in Vicksburg. I love photographing them and always find new and interesting things to capture with my camera (which I usually have with me, because you never know what pictures are out there, just waiting to be taken).
This time, it was flowers — beautiful, glorious, colorful, and delightful — flowers! They were everywhere ... in flowerbeds, flower pots, window boxes, and even growing wild on the side of the street.
These happy-looking sunflowers and zinnias were growing beside a garage, and were calling my name.
I just couldn't pass them by, and stopped to ask the homeowner if I could take some pictures. They were lovely, and I enjoyed seeing them up close through my lens, especially the sunflowers.
My next stop was at this neat little green house, and I think you can see why it caught my attention.
Half of the small front yard was covered by a "cottage" style garden featuring daisies, zinnias, Brown-Eyed Susans, and a tangled mass of flowers whose names I don't know. The term "riot of colors" comes to mind, and it was breathtaking, tangled or not.

Next door to the green house was this pretty little yellow cottage, with a charming window box gracing a large window. I love the screen porch, too!
And speaking of lovely ... These pink Hydrangeas, peeking out amongst the ferns and Virginia Creeper, make a pretty picture.
And I almost missed this little statue which would have been a shame. Isn't it sweet ...
And two houses down, this beautiful cobalt planter caught my eye.
As I was driving away, I noticed this pretty little daylily growing wild and untended beside an electrical pole. Bless its heart — it seemed to be saying, "Don't forget me!" ... so I backed up and captured its picture, too.
What a happy little face — doesn't it look like it's smiling!
A few blocks away, I spotted these pink Hydrangeas lining the side of this house.
When I looked at this picture up close, I couldn't help but wonder how many coats of paint are on that old house.
And last, but certainly not least, is this beautiful display of flowers which were beside a sidewalk near the curb for all the neighborhood to enjoy.
I hope you enjoyed wandering through some of my favorite neighborhoods with me. We have some very talented gardeners in Vicksburg, and I can appreciate the hard work that went into bringing their creative landscaping ideas to life.
