A Hungry Little Hummingbird

My husband and I were enjoying some quiet time in our courtyard late yesterday afternoon and our hummingbirds decided it was their dinnertime. Well, of course, there was no way I could just sit and watch them without capturing their antics with my camera.

This little fellow was persistent and didn't seem to mind me taking his picture from about ten feet away (you can click on the pictures to enlarge them, if you'd like) ...

There was a ruby-throated hummer, too, but he/she was a little more skittish, and all I was able to get of him/her was a blurry little blob darting to and from the feeder. I have all summer to enjoy them and look forward to getting better pictures as they become more acclimated to us sharing the courtyard with them.

How beautiful! I'm so glad you captured him in pictures. That's not easy to do.

Have a wonderful weekend!

We've had hummingbirds for several weeks now and they seem to think they own our deck instead of us! And if their food gets low they hover in front of the patio doors so Jerry will come and fill them up. :) blessings, marlene

Oh, how I love our hummingbirds. I have yet to capture them like you did. Beautiful pictures!

I came by to wish you and a choice Mothers Day, Janie.

I sat in the hot, dusty boxwoods for hours several days running one Summer---we'd had a great number of hummingbirds around the place, and so I scrunched down and held one of those red fake-flowers with its sugar-syrup center.

The feeling as those little fellows slowly gained trust and dipped into the flower just fractions from my fingers---like getting a Knighthood would feel, I expect.

You've captured their flight so beautifully, with all the shimmer of colors and their perfectly-designed empennage. Just lovely.

How lucky you are to have your hummingbirds and than for getting pictures of them in action for us!!

You probably already know that their wings flap 96 times per second. That explains why they seem to stand still in midair. Facinating, no?

Hi Janie. I was sitting on the porch the other day watching the purple finch momma feeding her babies in the wreath on my door and the hummingbirds were buzzing around my porch looking for the feeders. I hadn;t put them out yet so I figured if they remembered me I'd better get the feeders out so they would be fond memories. They have been feeding away now for days! I have 4 feeders out and really enjoy watching them. Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day. Blessings and Hugs, Celene

These are wonderful photos.

I keep watching the hummingbirds on the deck, here at the lake. We have two feeders. I should have my camera ready!
