Sweet Olive -- Heaven-Scent

If I had to name my favorite landscaping plant, it would be Sweet Olive (Osmanthus Fragrans).

We have several of them planted around our house, and I wish my camera could capture their sweet perfume along with their delicate blossoms. Everytime we walk outside, we're surrounded by its heavenly scent.

Here are a few close up pictures of the little clusters of flowers (as you can tell, I'm still working on my macro photography skills) ...

I noticed that my blogging friend Molly featured a post last week about her orange Sweet Olive plant. I didn't realize that there are orange ones, and was glad I saw Molly's. Molly lives in Mississippi, too, and is a very talented painter. I think you would enjoy her sweet "Country Memories" blog.

Thank you for linking to my blog. I love my orange sweet olive, I have a couple of the white ones and a pale yellow one and they don't bloom very often or haven't grown much since I planted them. Love your.

Hi Janie,
I added one to my garden last year, and it hasn't bloomed yet!

Wish I could smell yours too!

Wonder why mine hasn't bloomed-it has put on quite a bit of new growth!

Avery is adorable in the post below!

Janie, I love your pretty sweet olive. We have what I was told are sweet olive hedges in our yard, but they don't bloom. They just send up runners which we then have to cut. Is there a hedge plant called sweet olive, too, or did someone just tell me wrong?

There are some pictures of it somewhere on my blog. I think on a Blue Monday post somewhere several months back. Anyhow, I love yours! Interesting that they are aromatic!

XO,

Sheila :-)

What an aromatic memory this brings back! My mom had a couple of these sweet olives strategically placed in the yard so the summer breezes would waft their sweet scent our way as we were out back. That's long ago and far away (sigh).
