Our Mississippi Snowfall

The weatherman was right on target this time -- we woke up yesterday morning to one of the most delightful snowfalls I've ever seen in Mississippi. I think, officially, the total depth was five inches, but in places it was as deep as eight inches.

I so wanted to get out and take pictures around Vicksburg, but had to be content with taking them around our yard.

Here are some pictures I captured before daylight yesterday morning (you can click on them to enlarge them, if you'd like):

This was taken in our courtyard looking out toward the street.

And this is the path leading to our backyard.
The little "clumps" are dwarf mondo grass.

Here are a few more snow vignettes around our yard that caught my eye ...

This is our weather station. I'm sure it wondered what in the world happened!

The snow-covered branches of these trees remind me of a "snow maze."

And here's our little "Snow Bunny" having a ball playing in her first snowfall. I have lots more pictures of her and plan to create a slideshow with them for our family. I'm sure I will feature it here, too, after I finish editing the pictures. These are a few of my favorites:

Our little "Ballerina" Snowgirl (the tutu and headband were Avery's mommy's when she was a little girl) ...

Besides the snow, I had another surprise yesterday. I received my new Canon Macro 100mm lens (thank you, UPS!), and had a chance to get some close-ups in the snow.

We all enjoyed our beautiful snowfall, but the best thing about Mississippi snow is that it usually doesn't last but a couple of days. It had already started melting yesterday afternoon, and will be gone by the end of today.

I guess that means by Monday, I will be back in my "waiting-for-and-pining-for-Spring" mode. My favorite Bible verse says, "To everything there is a season," and I don't think I've ever been as ready for Spring to have its turn as I am this year. I'm especially looking forward to exploring its glory through my new macro lens.

Your pictures are as always beautiful. Love the shots with your new lens.
I called the Canon Company about adding a lens to mine and was told, I didn't need another lens, that it was 20 power and quote.."who needs anymore than that" unquote.....and that it had the macro lens built in. Hump, then he told me I just needed to read the instruction manual and learn how to use what I had before looking for something else. Kinda ticked me off...lol...I asked him for help cause the manual skipped all around and kept me confused, well more so than I normal am, he told me he'd transfer me to that department...lol..he'd didn't know how to use it either.
Enjoyed pictures of Avery, she looked like she was having so much fun.

Janie, this is an absolutely gorgeous post. I was waiting to see it, and you did not disappoint. The snow scenes are fabulous, and Avery is adorable as is the ballerina!

Loved seeing this. Wish I could play in it with you, but please don't send it to Florida. ;-) Our crops can't take it!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love you much...

XO,

Sheila :-)

It's a great blessing to see another Mississippi child marvel at the rare wonder of snow.

Your albums are storehouses of wonders for your family, and will be one of the most cherished parts of Avery's legacy.

I love all your pictures! They just look magical! How fun that we all got a little taste of the 'snow life' for a change! Ours is all gone, sadly. Would have been nice for it to stay around another day.

I think the ballerina snowlady is THE cutest, most clever snow creature ever! Love it!

Hey Janie! I'm sitting in our hotel room at the Ameristar Hotel, it's beautiful! We got here about 3:00 this afternoon and plan a full day of sightseeing tomorrow...hopefully the snow has left out and that won't hinder our trip. A lady did tell me she thought there might be snow again tomorrow (Sunday) but maybe not!

Thanks for making my trip planning a whole lot easier!
