Baby Bird

About a month ago, I wrote a post featuring a pair of house wrens that build their nest on top of a column on our porch. If you would like to read that post before you read this follow up to it, here is the link: Building a Bird Nest 101

We were recently away from home on vacation for a week, and, evidently, while we were gone the baby wrens hatched. All last week, whenever we walked out on the porch, we could hear them chirping and calling their mama to come feed them, but the nest was up so high, we couldn't get a glimpse of them.

I was working in the yard over the weekend, and all of a sudden I was startled by a little flash of feathers sort of flying/floundering by, and I realized it was a baby wren. I was so excited and watched him for a minute, then ran to get my camera. By the time I got back outside, the baby was all huddled up in a corner. I didn't want to scare him, so I put my zoom lens on my camera and didn't have to get too close to him. He (or she) was so precious just sitting there blinking at me ...

A few minutes later, he hopped over by the porch and I was able to get a few more closeups ...

Isn't he precious! Just look at those sweet little tufts of feathers sticking up on his head. I know his mama is so proud!

I hope I can watch him grow and perfect his flying skills in the next few days, and I'm going to be on the lookout for a brother or sister, too.

Isn't it a blessing to experience God's greatness in such a sweet way as watching a baby bird learn to fly!

That baleful, courageous little face and those strong-planted little stilt legs!!

It's a blessing watching ALL our baby birds learn to fly.

Precious! I love to watch birds and other creatures too in my yard. I feel honored that they choose to live close to me!
