Vicksburg Vignettes

It was too pretty a morning yesterday to stay inside, so I decided to take my camera and just drive around Vicksburg "to see what I could see."

No matter how many times I drive the streets of Vicksburg, I always seem to find interesting things (to me, anyway) to capture with my camera. Yesterday was no exception.

As I was driving down a street in one of my favorite residential neighborhoods, this pretty flowerbed caught my attention:

I love the red gazing ball and the cute little mushrooms on the right ...

And just around the corner, I couldn't pass by these morning glories without stopping to get a picture of them. They will be fading soon.

I was delighted to see this little guy enjoying the sunshine from his perch in a window. I pulled over to the curb and took this shot with my zoom lens from my car.

I've passed by this old house several times, but never stopped to get a picture — until yesterday. It looked deserted and in need of some tender, loving care.

I don't know if you can see them, but there are several old lamp lights lining the long drive, and a pretty fountain graces the front of the house (you can click on the pictures to enlarge them, if you'd like).

At one point in my ramblings, I turned into a daycare facility to turn around, and spotted these two little ones playing "Hide and Seek" ...

Aren't they adorable!

This is what I turned around to go back and capture:

It's a restaurant that sells hot dogs, and I love the sign on the side of the building:

And speaking of signs, here are a few more of my favorites around town:

This is "WisheWashy," a laundry service ...

And this is the sign on the side of the building ...

I love the little iron and ironing board and washtub and washboard attached to the sign.

This cute beauty shop sign always makes me smile ...

This display in front of one of the older pawn shops in town always gets a lot of attention, not necessarily good attention, but — well, you can see for yourself ...

The pink gorilla has been there for years, but I think the "baby" and "daddy" gorillas are fairly new additions.

You've gotta love a green, blue-eyed baby gorilla!

And last, but not least, my favorite sign is this street sign ...

I just love your jaunts!! And since I haven't seen Vicksburg since the Seventies, this is a lovely trip.

And those little hide-and-seek children are exactly how Sweetpea and I play! We hide our eyes against a tree or the garage, both of us at once, and she calls out the ready or not. I keep my eyes hidden, and and thus invisible, wait for her to find me.

I love this, Janie.

I know that old house is full of stories. I always wonder about the history of old houses. We were driving through the country yesterday evening and found a log house. Well, I did...J already knew about it. During his years as a lineman he visited the house, a weekend place of St Louis folks. He isn't sure if they still have it, but we crawled under a cable anyway..oh my, tresspassing. Didn't see a sign so decided we were okay. Anyhow, I took several photos and hope to get them edited in a certain way. We'll see what happens.

Janie, that house just makes me misty-eyed. Deserted houses always do. And I think I would have to get a picture with that pink gorilla for Pink Saturday. I might even have to break my no photo rule for that one. LOL!

Love the signs and the buildings and the cat and the flowers and the yard art. Enjoyed this. Thanks!

XO,

Sheila :-)
