A Fun Decorating Project

Our daughter and her family recently moved, and we've been steadily working to get them settled in their new home. By "getting them settled," I mean unpacking boxes, finding places to put all the stuff we unpacked, and, last, but not least, the FUN part — decorating and hanging pictures.

My daughter thought it would be a good time to update our seven-year-old granddaughter Avery's room, and it is still "a work in progress." We've ordered a daybed, which will be delivered, hopefully, next week ...

And to complement the black bed, we chose Pottery Barn's colorful "Camilla Crinkle Puff" bedding ...

One of the many projects on our list was redoing Avery's name which I painted several years ago in pastel "girly-girl" pinks and greens to match her bedding at the time.

Here is the way they looked in her old room ...

As I looked at that picture, I realized that the letters sort of got lost on that wall, so I decided to do something different for her new room. I thought about framing them or just gluing them together, but then I had a brilliant idea (or, at least I thought so) of gluing them to a stretched canvas on a frame. I visited our local Walmart and found all the supplies I needed for my project.

I couldn't find a blank canvas the size I needed, but, luckily, came across this picture which was the perfect size ...

Next came the arts and crafts department where I selected acrylic paints to match the colors in her new bedding (I had one of the pillow cases with me so I could match the colors). I think my heart actually skipped a beat when I saw the cute little wooden flowers shown in the next picture ...

Some were painted and some were unpainted, and I was so excited because I knew they would be perfect for my "Avery" sign.

I painted the canvas a bright turquoise, spray painted the letters white, and glued them on the canvas. Then, I painted the flowers and attached them to the sign.

I was pleased with the way it turned out and can't wait to find just the right spot for it in Avery's new room.

Here's the way it looked against the pillow case ...

I'm planning to capture "before and after" pictures of a few more of our decorating projects for her room, and will share them and pictures of the room when we finish it.

What brilliant way to match Avery's letters to the new decor, love it!

I can't believe Avery is already seven years old. Time flies!

What a cute and clever idea ! The colors are so pretty and I LOVE Avery's new bed.

I'll be interested to see more pictures as the decor in Avery's room progresses..

Have a wonderful September.
Blessings, Charlotte

Sweetpea, you DO beat all!! All that unpacking and walking-over and around boxes, and the hot getting into the house with every trip in or out, and deciding WHERE for all the items in a new home---and you're still taking time to do something so special for Your Girl. Perfecto.

I'd still be snarled in unrolled tape---you know the kind that you scritttttch off the sides and around the top slit of a box, and it curls up with all those little brown snigglets of torn cardboard skin?

And I'd probably be snarling at passers-by.

How Dear and Talented you are!

Oh goodness, that is so cute and perfect for her age. You captured that Pottery Barn look even if you didn't mean to. :)
