Changin' Times

The times they are a-changin' *
You can feel it in the air.

The summer's heat is fading,
As Fall arrives with flair.

To every thing there is a season,
With good things about each one,

But Fall ... in all its glory,
Is hard to be outdone.

(First line by Bob Dylan, rest of poem is by me)

The times they are a-changin' ... those words are very appropriate for this time of year with the impending arrival of Fall reflected in everything around us. And there's something about the rite of passage from one season to another that inspires me with a feeling of "starting over with a clean slate," especially when it comes to decorating.

One of life's simplest pleasures for me is to decorate our home for each season, and this morning I started with the Welsh Dresser in our breakfast area. I began by removing everything from the shelves ...

Then I made a trip to the attic and brought down all my "Fall stuff," which included silk flowers and berries, stained gourds, and my "crock collection" ...

Here are the "after" pictures ...

I hope Fall is in the air where you live and you are enjoying decorating projects, too. Thanksgiving will be here before we know it!

OHHHH, MADAME!! Tres jolie!

You are a woman of many parts, including poetry---i'm impressed once again. (The very first thing I ever published---I was six and the Commercial Appeal paid me two dollars---began "Autumn is in the air.") So I especially love your verses.

And your touch with decorating just brights me no end. I just made a little list of "to do" before our houseguests arrive tomorrow---well, they HAVE their own house---they travel in it, but we live all over this one when they're here, so it's everything but sleeping here.

Still have residuals (three vacuums, four fans blowing full speed) from the flooding down here, but it feels much better and smells really nice---the disinfectant was scented with "French Vanilla Creme"---can you imagine?

I do love that "dresser" which you transform for every season; it's like one of those movie montages which segue from snow to green to waving corn, and just fills my heart with beautiful, every time.

I even HAVE one of those dressers, and nowhere to put it, so it lives in the dining room at Sweetpea's house---they will own it one day anyway---why not now?

Must hie me to business---still have cameras and hats and even a 20lb. bag of Calrose on the breakfast table.

love and,

rachel

Janie, your dresser looks beautiful as always.. I love your picture with the various kinds of fruit..
Your crocks go so well with all of your other decorations..

I've started putting things out here but I change them around so many times that it takes me longer to finish.. I wish I could be satisfied the first time I place something. giggles I'm having fun though..

We're having a beautiful day today.. Although I could have gone all day and for the rest of my life without the news my daughter brought home this morning after her doctors appt..
She saw a black snake in the middle of our street..

We've lived in this house, in this neighborhood for 45 years and have NEVER seen one of those awful things. I have a LOT of ivy in our yard so I'm going to have to be very careful now where I put my hands.

Take care and enjoy your "tweaking".
Blessings,
Charlotte
