Back Yard Lagniappe

Today's pictures were captured during a recent visit with my parents at their house in northeast Louisiana. Mama and Daddy love working in their yard and garden, and their hard work and love of gardening are reflected everywhere you look. Here are just a few of the things that caught my eye as I walked around their yard with my camera.

My dad built this trellis for my mother's 4th of July roses.

Their birds, and an occasional squirrel, love stopping by the feeder and bird bath for a snack and a refreshing splash or two.

Aren't the roses gorgeous!

I spotted this little fellow taking a nap on a statue in a flower bed ...

He didn't seem to mind having his picture taken.

This is the statue he was resting on ...

I think she has a sweet face ...

Although the leaves of Mama's Hollyhocks appeared to be fading, the blooms were beautiful ...

Unfortunately, the leaves must have had a disease or something, because Mama had to eventually cut them back.

I love this old Mexican pot which Mama has had for years ...

She "wintered" these pretty pink Petunias in their garage, and they are just as pretty as ever now ...

Maybe it's because they have a little fairy taking care of them ...

This little rabbit looks like he is keeping watch for something, or someone ... Mr. McGregor, perhaps?

I love the foliage of this perennial groundcover. It's so lush and green this time of year ...

In a month or so, it will have beautiful red lily-like blooms like the ones in this picture, which I captured in May last year ...

If any of you gardeners know what kind of flower that is, would you please let me know. [My master gardener friend Jane wrote and told me the flower is Alstromeria. I'm so glad to know what it is. Thank you, Jane!]

I've saved the best picture for last. This is my dad working in his newly-tilled garden, which he tilled himself. A few months ago, we weren't sure he would ever be able to have a garden again, but God blessed him with a miracle and here he is in one of his most favorite places in all the world — his garden:

It won't be long before it looks like it did in this picture I took last spring ...

If you would like to read about the miracle God gave my dad, you can click on the link above.

I hope you enjoyed my walk around my parents' yard. It's one of my most favorite places in the world, too.

Best wishes to you for a weekend filled with visits to some of your favorite places!

Your mom and dad have a great eye for design. :o)
When people say there is no God, I scoff. He shows His hand everywhere if they only look and listen.

No idea what the flower is, but it is very pretty. I suggest getting someone from the Ag center to come look at it.

Hope you all have a blessed weekend! Thank you for sharing all these lovely pictures with us. ♥

How I love strolling along beside you as you lead on such splendid adventures!

It's so good to see all those old home-flower---the little pink petunias after their Winter nap, and the big ole Bubba hollyhocks, tall and proud. The little lizard has chosen the most advantageous fold of the cape for his rest---smooth and warm in the sun.

And the gardener, himself---a walking testimonial to the miracle of seed and prayer and faith.

love,

rachel

What a wonderful story about your Dad's miracle. I am glad God found a way for him and that the outcome was good. It is just wonderful that your parents have been devoted to each other for all these years.I love hearing about blessings like these. Your Mother's garden is so sweet with the plants and cute statuary. It is wonderful that your Dad will be planting another garden this year.
