Fencerow Treasures

Buck Reed Road runs north and south between Old Highway 80 and Champion Hill Road in Hinds County, Mississippi, between Edwards and Bolton.  It is a typical country road marked with more than its share of potholes and bordered by farmlands and a few houses.

It doesn't have any picturesque barns, or silos, or magnificent trees to distinguish it from hundreds of other rural county roads in the area ... but if you slow down and take a closer look at the fencerows bordering it, you can find beauty hidden amongst those tangled grasses and vines.

It was a cloudy day when I drove down Buck Reed Road earlier in the week, but the season's first stalks of Goldenrod were like little rays of sunshine peeking out from the tangled vines ...

They were especially pretty in and amongst the blue and purple wildflowers surrounding them ...

Of course, I had to get a closer look at the blue and purple flowers, too ...

God's handiwork never ceases to awe and amaze me ...

"Green" Goldenrod ...

The sun made an appearance for a few minutes and highlighted the new stems of goldenrod, which are just barely beginning to show their colors ...

The sun was also filtering through the leaves of these fencerow "weeds," and transformed them into "pictures" that caught my eye ...

I hope I have inspired you to get out this weekend and enjoy the countryside where you live.  Those of you who live north of the Mason-Dixon Line may discover that the trees and fencerows are already showing their colors, announcing the impending arrival of Fall, in all its glory.

Here in Mississippi, we have rain and a little cooler temperatures forecast for the weekend and first of next week ... so, who knows ... perhaps Fall is right around the corner for us, too.
