I find myself taking a lot of pictures these days and usually have my camera in my car with me. You just never know when you're going to see something interesting, like an eagle perched on a pole beside the highway ...
Anytime I see something I think is interesting or unique, I stop and capture it with my camera. As a result, I have accumulated several photos featuring unusual mailboxes that caught my eye at one time or another. Some of the boxes are truly works of art and reflect their owner's imagination, creativity, and, in some cases, sense of humor.
The first mailbox is one I found last May on a day trip to Yazoo City, Mississippi (you can click here if you'd like to read my post about Yazoo City) ...
I found these two boxes on Highway 61 South, a few miles south of Vicksburg ...
This mailbox belongs to an old Victorian style house here in Vicksburg, and is painted to match the house ...
I love the creativity and imagination that produced this mailbox and its matching house in Natchez (you can see more pictures of the house in my post about Natchez, and be sure to click on the pictures to enlarge them -- it's amazing!) ...
This cute mailbox must belong to a musician ...
I love this little church mailbox that I found on Highway 80 east of Vicksburg ...
And I came across this cottage-style mailbox in Jackson ...
I've saved my favorite for last -- I discovered this little wooden caboose mailbox on a recent trip up Highway 61 North ...
I'm always on the lookout for unique mailboxes and I'll bet if you start noticing them when you're traveling, you'll be surprised by how many you see.

I'm always on the lookout for cute ideas while driving too. I'm hoping to get some pictures of the different water towers around here, some of them are soooo unique, and I love the painting on them.
You could do a coffee table book, Mailboxes of Mississippi. :) They are very fun. I'll be honest and tell you that I'm so busy looking around sometimes that I miss my turns! There's just too much good stuff to see.
I think that I can tell that you are a collector at heart. So am I. If I find one of something tht really catches my fancy, I begin looking for another. And ir I find 2....well, then I'm a goner. Matters not if you buy it or capture it on film...it's 'yours' either way.
I love the mailboxes. I would love to take the picture of the cows to show my kids at school. We are doing a unit on animals and the sounds they make. We were talking last week about how many different colors of cows there are. This is a perfect illustration!
My fav. is the church mailbox...but that eagle is amazing!
Those mailboxes are SO neat, Janie, but I think my personal favorite is the church... or maybe the cottage. They look like birdhouses, an I do love a birdhouse!
Sending love to you, too...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Gee, Janie, you're just so talented. I agree with Stacy......figure out how to produce that book!!! I love the church and cottage, and I've more than likely seen the one in Natchez that you posted. I'm off to read your post about Natchez, my birthplace!!!
Thanks!
Suzanne
How fun!! Loved looking at all the wonderful & creative mailboxes! Great post!
Morning Janie! This post reminded me of how much fun I used to have decorating my mailbox for the seasons!!! Current address doesn't allow them (which can be a good thing!). My father had made me a swan cover once and that lasted til it rotted back in the '80's! Then I had those magnetic wraps that I loved to change out! Oh I miss my mailbox more than I thought! Have a great day - Sincerely, Jeannette
What cute and tacky mailboxes. Love this post.
What a great idea to take these photos...I think my favorite is the little white church...too cute!! I have just gotten a new camera and have been keeping it in the car, too...waiting for those special photo moments!!
Blessings to you!
I liked this post very much of all these unique mailboxes. The whimsey of some brought me smiles.
You are smart to travel with your camera as you drive around and generous to share your "findings" with us. Thanks X 10!
