Scenes from Old Highway 80

I'd like to thank our gracious hostess Susan at A Southern Daydreamer, for taking the time to host our "Outdoor Wednesdays." Be sure and visit Susan today and read her interesting post on Stone Mountain, Georgia.

For my "Outdoor Wednesday" post today, I'd like to share a few pictures I took on a recent trip to Shreveport, Louisiana. The first ones are of the Mardi Gras Museum, located on old Highway 80 west of Shreveport, and feature some of the floats peeking out of their storage buildings.

We traveled old Highway 80 from Shreveport to Arcadia, Louisiana, and I was pleased to capture these two dusty old cars in a storage shed beside the road (one is a Cadillac [first photo], and I couldn't identify the other one). They are probably quite valuable, especially the Cadillac ...

If you ever have a chance to travel old Highway 80, I think you would enjoy it. Every now and then you come across remnants of history from the days before interstates ... like deserted old gas stations with gas prices less than $2.00 a gallon, and deserted old motels with their faded neon signs. And, if you're lucky, you might even see an eagle perching on a pole beside the road like this one I captured with my camera on another Highway 80 adventure ...

Highway 80 is where we found our most precious dog many years ago. He was a miniature dachshund, and he was all alone, trotting down the road, with no houses anywhere in sight. My daughter got him for us, and he lived fifteen years as king of the castle with us.

Those Mardi Gras statue/parade things are so scary to look at out of context. I see them in a horror movie or a Stephen King novel! (no offense, they just remind me of that). I love your picture of the old dusty car and the one of the eagle is amazing.

Happy Outdoor Wednesday! It looks like you had a great time on Highway 80. Those floats look pretty awesome. Would like to go to Mardi Gra someday, just to see the parades. Have you ever been? My one boss was from Louisiana, he would always bring in a King cake.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Janie,
Your photographs are stunning, the floats are so colorful, and I imagine the old cars could tell some great stories. I love to ride through the country and take pictures such as these. I also clicked on the eagle story, and so enjoyed it you were very lucky that he stayed for his picture to be taken. Thank you for sharing I so enjoyed my visit. Blessings,
sue

Wonderful photos! I'm always curious what camera people are using- to try to drum up inspiration for myself that I, too, may one day be able to get some shots like theirs. I'm just beginning my photography lifestyle w/a new point and shoot.

Love the eagle! Going now to read about it.
