Seagulls

This is the second of a series of four posts I'd like to share about a recent Trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. You can click on the link to read the first post featuring photos of the sunrise over Biloxi.

Today, I'd like to share some pictures I captured of the seagulls frolicking on the sandbars. I had never really seen seagulls up close until that morning on the beach, and I discovered, thanks to my zoom lens, that they are truly beautiful little creatures. Actually, I think the correct name for the species found on the Coast are Laughing Gulls, but I prefer to think of them as just "seagulls." You can click on the pictures to enlarge them, if you'd like.

These two looked as if they were out for their morning stroll, and I could just imagine the one in front saying, "Hurry up, Myrtle. Don't be such a slowpoke!"

They were a little skittish and wouldn't let me get any closer than about 10 to 15 feet, but I managed to get a few closeups ...

The next picture is one of my favorites. I just love that little face!

I wish I had gotten a closer shot of this one's feet ...

I love the delicate tracings their footprints left in the sand.

I loved hearing their chattering and watching them swoop overhead. They're such graceful birds and I'm so glad I was able to capture them in my pictures.

There's one more picture I want to share. Although this little guy is not as pretty or as graceful as the seagulls, he sat in one spot the entire time I was taking pictures, as if waiting his turn to have his picture taken. Bless his heart ... is that a hint of a smile I see?

I hope you will join me tomorrow to see "Mississippi's Little Grand Canyon."

I don't remember ever seeing the black-headed gulls, just the utter, heart-searing WHITE---the pearly, shining, almost iridescent white of them swooping overhead.

One of my favorite things is to take a couple of loaves of bread and sit on the sand---they get the idea QUICK, and will swoop down and take it right from your hand. I'd hold my hand high over my head, and looking up into the blue, blue with the white swoop of almost-angelwings---I'd be dizzy from the angle and the honor.

And the little fleur-de-lis footprints! Magical.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow---SIL used to live in Columbia, and I'd always ask to go there when we visited. Did I say DIZZY?

I have never really noticed how beautiful these birds are! And, such sweet footprints!

And, I would title the one with Myrtle...Walking On Sunshine!

Thanks for sharing these!
