An Heirloom Cradle

This past weekend our daughter Whitney, granddaughter Avery Grace, and 3-week-old grandson Maddox came to visit (Whitney's husband Doug was working out of town).

It was Maddox's first visit, and I couldn't wait to put him in this little cradle ...

For you see, that's not just any cradle — it's one my Mama (Maddox's great-grandmother) slept in when she was a baby 84 years ago!

And Mama told me that by then several babies before her had slept in it, so the bed is probably close to 100 years old.

Whitney and our son Benjamin also slept in it on their first visits to their grandparents' house, and I was so pleased to be able to continue the tradition with Avery and Maddox.

I think he likes it.

We also celebrated my dad's 87th birthday! Daddy was in his glory with these two ...

I'm sad to say that Maddox has already outgrown the cradle and that was his first and his last nap in it. But at least I had a chance to capture some pictures of him to save for posterity — and who knows, perhaps one day his or Avery's babies may sleep in it.

Ooooh, Maddox is such a little love - bug... can't resist those darling cheeks and the chubby little fists.....

Love the pics and the history of the heirloom, and the photo of the three of them together is precious!

Blessings,
Jennifer
