New Orleans Revisited in Pictures

It's been several years since we visited New Orleans, but I recently came across some pictures I captured on our last visit, which was in 2008 — three years after Katrina's devastating visit.

I think New Orleans is one of the most beautiful cities in America, and it is literally a photographer's treasure trove of pictures just waiting to be captured. Not only its beautiful architecture and historical districts, but its people and the street scenes in the French Quarter are absolutely fascinating to watch. You never know what or who you might see!

And speaking of "fascinating street scenes" — here are just a few I captured on our walk through the Quarter.

This balcony in the French Quarter is just one of hundreds that line the streets of the Quarter. Notice the Mardi Gras beads dangling from the plants ...

I did a double take when I noticed this lady lounging in front of the mural.

If you're lucky, you might see a street parade, and we enjoyed watching this one pass by ...

On just about every street corner there is some form of entertainment — from having your fortune told, to street musicians and entertainers ...

And just walking by the shops and window shopping is an adventure in and of itself ...

And speaking of "never knowing what you might see," you've got to admire the imagination and pure artistry that went into the creation of this work-of-art-on-wheels, which features all kinds of glassware gracing its front, back, and sides.

I like its owner's sense of humor, too!

This old building in the Quarter caught my attention ...

This is the same picture after I "removed the people," and changed it to sepia tones:

The St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square is probably one of the most photographed sights in the Crescent City, and I captured this picture early one morning after a rain.

When you're tired of walking, you can always go over to the waterfront and just "sit a spell" and watch the ships make their way down the River. You can't help but wonder where they've been and where they're headed ...

And to see another side of New Orleans, take a trolley ride down St. Charles Avenue, and see the lovely old mansions and cottages of the Garden District ...

These are just a few of the facets of New Orleans I managed to photograph during our visit. I would love to go back this Fall when the weather is cooler and capture more of its uniqueness and beauty with my camera. It is truly a magical place and if you have never visited, I encourage you to put it on your "bucket list." There is no other place in the world quite like it.

There is no place in America like New Orleans. It is as close to Europe as we have, We can think the French for that. I have always wanted to live there, might not like it, just a dream. Thanks for bringing me all these memories. I have not been since 9/11, went right after in Oct, Richard from My Old Historic House.
