Tapestry -- A Living History of Vicksburg

If you are planning a trip to Vicksburg soon, you may want to time your visit during our upcoming spring celebration called "Tapestry -- A Living History of Vicksburg." The festivities begin March 13th and run through April 6th.

The concept of Tapestry was the "brainchild" of Vicksburg resident Betty Bullard, owner of a local restaurant and also owner of one of the oldest homes in Vicksburg. With her vision ... and the combined efforts of the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Vicksburg Bed and Breakfast Association ... the "tapestry" celebration became a reality.

During the celebration, visitors will have the opportunity to "experience the rich tapestry of early Vicksburg life; explore the fabric of Vicksburg society with tours of our historic homes and hallways; and enjoy interpretive presentations of Vicksburg’s history that bring to life the heritage and culture of this remarkable river city."

Sixteen of Vicksburg's most historic properties will tell their stories -- from antebellum grandeur, to the Siege of Vicksburg, to the turn of the 20th Century. Together, "these stories weave the tapestry of who and what Vicksburg is today."

Tapestry presentations will include collections of vintage 1800’s fine china, silver and antiques, clothing, linens, Victorian jewelry, Civil War medical instruments and period tools, stained glass-making, jewelry-making, quilting, tatting, Victorian flower arranging, and period foods and spirits. There will also be special presentations about the Davis Family of Warren County, the history of the Sisters of Mercy, and the slave trade in Vicksburg. Tapestry will also feature special evening musical presentations.

As you can tell, I love Vicksburg. Not only is it a beautiful quaint Mississippi River town steeped in history and rich in culture, but it has something to offer all its visitors ... regardless of age or interests.
