I spotted this cute little table at a yard sale and, although it was kind of banged up and its paint was peeling, I loved it. I asked the lady the price and was delighted when she said, "$2.00?" -- with a question mark at the end like that might be too much! I hurriedly paid her for it and ran to my car with it before she could change her mind. After I got it home and looked at it more closely, I decided that the paint was too "chippy" for the "distressed" look I wanted, so I decided to paint it a cream color and distress it myself. That called for sanding some of the paint off and I and my "little helper," Avery, went right to work ... Well, to make a long story a little shorter, I sprayed the table a cream color, but didn't like the way it looked ... so I abandoned the project for a couple of weeks. Not long after that, I was in Wal-Mart and bought a can of flat black spray paint and figured if I didn't like the table painted black, I could just use it in the garage or somewhere. I sprayed it black and decided I really liked the way it turned out. Thank you, Diane, for hosting "Trash to Treasure Tuesdays" ... I look forward to seeing everyone's "new treasures." |

A Trash to Treasure Transformation ...
Diane at A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words is hosting "Trash to Treasure Tuesdays," which is a great idea. Be sure and visit Diane to see her clever transformation of an old suitcase into an attractive way to store family photos. Today, I'd like to share one of my favorite "Trash to Treasure" finds. I found this ornate old planter in a junk shop and it was dirty and tarnished and covered with cobwebs, but I was delighted with it and hurriedly paid the man $20.00 for it before he could change his mind.

Another Trash to Treasure Story ...
I love old prints and lithographs, especially in frames without glass, and this one caught my eye in a "junk shop" next door to our cleaners. It had water spots and scratches and was covered with grime, but I love the picture and the frame was in good condition, so I asked the shop owner if he would take $5.00 for it. He said he would today, and I started to ask him if he'd take $2.00 for it tomorrow, but I didn't. I gave him my $5.00, and brought it home, cleaned it, then wiped the print and the frame with Old English Scratch Cover for Dark Wood. I'm pleased with the way it turned out and here it is in its new home (one of our guest bedrooms) ... |
