A Treasure from a Tennessee Antique Mall

In a post last week about our recent trip to Franklin, Tennessee, I mentioned visiting the Franklin Antique Mall.

The mall is huge and has a variety of everything ... from fine antique furniture and paintings to flea market items. I enjoyed browsing and saw several things I liked, but it was love at first sight when I saw this little primitive clay vase.

I loved its simplicity and thought it would be pretty on the Welsh dresser in our breakfast room. But when I turned it upside down and saw the signature on the bottom, I knew I had to have it.

I assume that the "Sr." stands for Sister Eustelle, and I love the fact that it was made by a nun almost 70 years ago, if that date is authentic.

Here it is in its new home ...

Don't you just love finding something that makes you happy every time you look at it, even though it doesn't have any real value to anyone but you? I wish I could tell Sister Eustelle how much I like her little vase.

Looks like a neat place. For a second I thought you got another welsh dresser. I was thinking, "Hey I can't even find one!"

I'd say you made a great purchase. It looks great on the Welsh Dresser.

I think it looks wonderful there and I too love the lines of this piece. Great that it was made over 70 years ago!

Beautiful find, Janie! Wonderful Antique Mall. I'm making a list of things to see in Tennessee, next time we're there.

Janie, How interesting to find the signature of perhaps a Sister and the dated. You were certainly lucky and it looks right at home on the shelf.

I know that feeling, finding something that feels like a real treasure even though it is not of much material value is among the most sublime experiences! Besides, your pitcher looks perfect on your dresser!

I collect small white milk jugs. Last week I found two at a charity shop, I spent 1 Euro and got a white gold-rimmed teacup without saucer on top of it. I treasure all three of them. I shall plant some flower in the teacup, so it can live out its life as a useful vessel.
