A Sweet Surprise

My husband had a business meeting in New Orleans this week, and on his way back to Vicksburg, he stopped at Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and picked up a surprise for me and our granddaughter Avery Grace, who spent her "Spring Break" with us.

Ponchatoula calls itself "the Mayberry of the Deep South," but it is also known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World."  Their delicious strawberries are available from November to April, and in 2001, the Louisiana Legislature selected the strawberry as the state fruit.

The Annual Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is held the second weekend of April every year, and is the second largest festival in the state of Louisiana.  For more information on the festival, you can visit Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival

But back to our "surprise" ...

Aren't those the most beautiful strawberries you've ever seen!  Some of them are literally as large as lemons, and are as sweet and juicy and scrumptious as they look!

Hope your weekend is as sweet!

And right here at BREAKFAST time, too!! These are spectacular, and I know you've enjoyed them.

There are about six from a huge box from Sam's left in the fridge, and they were truly that large. I laid a nickel on one and took one of "my" pictures, with the shadow on the side and darker color than they should be.

These photos could grace a billboard right up there leading into town for the festival, or any magazine of Spring cookery or eatery or just plain ART.

So glad you had a few days with your Avery. I know those moments are so precious, and you are both lucky girls.

love and,
