I drove down the mountain to the town of Blue Ridge early yesterday morning, and on my way back to the lodge, I captured these beautiful blackberries growing wild along the mountain road.

Nothing like a hot morning in a blackberry bramble to stir your urge to get out all the canning pots and those shining Masons.
(Though up here, I suppose I should say BALL, for their factory has been quite a boon to a lot of the local economies).
I can smell that sweet surge of strong blackberry juices simmering, see the first test-spoon dropped into an old saucer, and taste that first fingertip of the slightly-cooled little pool of it, jelling right on cue.
You KNOW I'm gonna have to go find a store that carries Blackberry Jelly, now don't you?
oh they look so tempting....would love a bowl right now...
Janie, I love the way the green background is such a soft backdrop for the colors of the berries and even their leaves. This is just beautiful photography. It also reminds me of a china pattern, and I'm not sure if it's Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, or Royal Grafton, but it's definitely English! ;-)
When I was little I used to pick berries in the summer with Granny and Jessie (our cook), and I can still smell the blackberry cobbler cooking and see the vanilla ice cream mounded on top of that hot cobbler. Such sweet memories.
XO,
Sheila :-)
Look at those beautiful berries! What a beautiful picture for your header! We buy only blackberry jelly here. It's the yummiest!
We had a field next to a previous dwelling that was abundant with wild blackberries when my boys were young. We had some great cobblers but nothing is better than tasting them right off the bush! Beautiful shots!
Beautiful shots, Janie!
Now those are some very yummy looking photos,,, did you pick a few?? I would have been so tempted to.....
