Pass-Along Iris

I'd like to thank our hostess Susan at A Southern Daydreamer, for taking the time to host our "Outdoor Wednesdays." Be sure to visit Susan and say 'hello,' and follow the links to see everyone else's outdoors today.

I'd like to share this exquisite yellow ruffled iris which is in my mother's backyard. The iris is a "pass-along" plant from one of my aunts and that makes it even more special. I took the pictures on April 4th, when it was at its peak ...

I recently had the center picture framed for Mama for her birthday and she was thrilled with it.

Best wishes to you for a happy day today. It's my sweet husband's birthday, so it's a special one for me.

I would also like to share this sweet poem about the Iris ...

Iris, Most Beautiful Flower

Iris, most beautiful flower,
Symbol of life, love, and light;
Found by the brook, and the meadow,
Or lofty, on arable height.
You come in such glorious colors,
In hues, the rainbow surpass;
The chart of color portrays you,
In petal, or veins, of your class.
You bloom with the first in Winter,
With the last, in the Fall, you still show;
You steal the full beauty of Springtime,
With your fragrance and sharp color glow.
Your form and beauty of flower,
An artist's desire of full worth;
So Iris, we love you and crown you,
MOST BEAUTIFUL FLOWER ON EARTH!

Hi Janie,
I have seen a lot of irises but this one is very beautiful and unusual, and to have one with special meaning makes it even more beautiful. I had to go back and take a second look, so dainty.I also enjoyed this beautiful poem, very true. Thank you for sharing.

Oh Janie! One word: Exquisite! That is the most beautiful delicate iris that I have ever seen. I love the ruffled edges and it almost has a bled colored edge with the white touches upon it. It is so beautiful. I wanted to sign up to follow your blog, as I would love to see what you post next, but I did not see a place to do so. Please stop by and say hi. Sign up to follow my blog, so that I can keep track of yours. Just beautiful honey, just beautiful. Country Hugs, Sherry

Beautiful iris and very special poem to match, Janie! I love her... all dressed up in her yellow ruffled ballgown! Do you think she might like a date with a shrimp??? ;-) See my post for explanation.

I love the fact that your Iris was passed from your great aunt's garden. My father in law transplanted a lot of fern from our first house in Florida, and it's still growing like mad in their yard. It makes Mom so happy to have it there and Dad, too, when he was living. So I love these types of plants. Love you, too!

Happy OW...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Beautiful pictures. My favorite flowers are the Lilies and the Iris.
This one is extremely beautiful and being a pass along plant from your Aunt makes it even more beautiful and special.
